Mr. Danny Fung – Managing Director
The first evidence of export of beer from Carlsberg to Asia was in 1869 where export was started on a trial basis to a number of Asian destinations including Yangon, Singapore and Hong Kong. The trial was a success and export to China soon followed. Export of Carlsberg beer to China continued through this century, only with interruptions due to the first and second World Wars. When Carlsberg established its own brewery in Hong Kong in 1981, export was transferred to this brewery.
Carlsberg Brewery Hong Kong is a subsidiary of the Carlsberg Group – one of the leading global beer companies. Carlsberg’s founder, J.C. Jacobsen exported his first barrels of beer to Hong Kong in 1869 and the Carlsberg brand has been present in Hong Kong since 1923, making it Hong Kong’s first imported quality beer and securing the brand’s long standing position as one of the most popular brands in the market. Today, Carlsberg Brewery Hong Kong is a leader in beer and cider market in Hong Kong. The company is responsible for marketing, sales and distribution of the flagship Carlsberg brand in Hong Kong and Macau, as well as a portfolio of some of the best-selling beer and cider brands (including third-party brands), such as Kronenbourg 1664, Somersby, SKOL, Asahi Super Dry, Guinness and Erdinger. In 2016, Carlsberg Brewery Hong Kong has started a close partnership with Brooklyn Brewery of New York, to distribute premium quality craft beer – Brooklyn and HK YAU. In addition, Carlsberg Brewery Hong Kong is also the exclusive distributor of Nikka Japanese Whiskey, Smirnoff Ice and a number of wine brands.
